LZI provided building enclosure design peer review and construction administration for the four-level, 63,400 GSF state-of-the-art instructional building. The building comprises of shared resources, classrooms and educational spaces, student support spaces, academic offices, administration offices and building support. The project design integrating the area’s distinct topography. The project was delivered using a design-build approach under an accelerated and demanding construction schedule. LZI completed design peer review of the below grade and retaining wall waterproofing, exterior wall cladding (veneer brick over cement board over continuous insulation with integral AWB), a variety of fenestrations (windows in punched openings, window-wall, storefront, and curtain wall), sheet metal flashings, low-slope roofing with PVC membrane, and balcony deck waterproofing. LZI supported the project during construction and provided support of the performance mock-up, submittal and shop drawing reviews, responses to RFIs, progress site visit reviews, exterior facade testing program and observations. The structural design of the building presented complex movement joints in the exterior skin that required careful resolution for continuity and compatibility between exterior AWB, perimeter window sealant, roofing and associated accessory materials.
