Challenge

LZI completed design peer review and construction administration services for building enclosure for the Tom Bradly, and T5.5 terminal core additions as part of the airport modernization. The project featured an accelerated schedule, integrated with existing airport buildings and was completed during typical operation of the fifth largest airport in the US (by passenger volume). LZI completed design peer review, developed laboratory mock-up performance testing criteria and observed progress of field installations of unitized curtain wall, window wall and storefront fenestration systems. LZI assisted with the development of specifications and drawings for exterior enclosures that featured pre-applied thermoplastic below grade sheet waterproofing with complex movement joints over secant pile soil retention system, rainscreen metal panels over continuous insulation with fluid-applied air-water barrier, hot rubberized asphalt waterproofing with concrete topping slab, seismic expansion joints, sheet metal flashings, PVC, modified bitumen and coal tar pitch low-slope roofing. LZI supported the project during construction and provided submittal and shop drawing reviews, responses to RFIs, and progress site visit reviews.. The project was completed in 2024.
