Challenge

LZI provided consulting services that included performing a comprehensive podium waterproofing condition assessment that was originally constructed in 1960, and modified in 1991 and 2002. The relatively small podium deck, approximately 1,800 GSF, contained many complicated enclosure interfaces that included SEJs (seismic expansion joints), numerous penetrations, concrete walls, multi-wythe brick cladding, storefront doors/thresholds, walk-off recessed grading, and curtain wall glazing. Leakage from the deck severely impacted the document storage operations below the deck. Our services included review of as-built construction drawings and prior reports, site investigation to document the existing conditions, interior leakage/damage survey, coordination of destructive testing, visual survey of SEJs, development of report of findings, and basis of design scope of work for waterproofing repair/replacement.
