LA Union Station

LZI investigated active water intrusion in multiple subterranean, occupied areas of the station including passageway tunnels, offices and vendor spaces, and designed remedial repairs to preserve the integrity and operation of the historic transportation hub. LZI’s services included water testing, developing waterproofing repair specifications, design detailing, field construction mock-up review and construction administration services. The project featured replacement of the basement wall waterproofing with new fluid-applied waterproofing, and repairs to split-slab and traffic-bearing waterproofing, cement plaster cladding, fenestrations, and roofing. LZI worked closely and in coordination with the project team to meet an accelerated construction schedule and maintain the historic building appearance. LZI’s project involvement has been ongoing since 2021 and we are engaged in several active projects that are being phased to accommodate the regular operations of the train station.
