LZI conducted design peer review, glazing shop drawing submittal review, and construction administration services during the installation of a new 27 ft. tall (four glazing bays tall) by 360 ft. long, unitized aluminum and glass curtain wall for Charles Pankow Builders, the general contractor. The installation replaced existing mechanical louvers and granite panel cladding on the 52nd floor of the north tower of the City National Plaza, Paul Hastings Tower (formerly ARCO Towers) as part of an interior space conversion from mechanical to a high-end, Class A office for a world-renowned business consulting firm. LZI also conducted peer review and construction support services for the addition of a new roof level skylight that integrated with the existing coal-tar pitch low-slope roofing. The project also included conversion of interior space to an open-air, exterior balcony on the 51st floor with new waterproofing, finishes, exterior walls and glass guardrail. This project truly presented the unique complexities and challenges of working safely, 600 ft. above street level to integrate new and existing enclosure systems and modernize this iconic skyscraper and L.A. skyline staple.
